October 28 Update

October 28 Update

Field Trip:

Edward Hopper at the Whitney Museum

I went to go see the Edward Hopper exhibit this morning and was fascinated by Hoppers use of color and his ability to portray perspective. Although it is not related to my project directly seeing how Hopper paints people and conveys a certain emotion through all his pieces is definitely inspiring.

MindGame - Masaaki Yuasa

MindGame is an animated movie that blew my mind! It incorporates different animation techniques throughout the movie and has a great storyline. I am going to take inspiration from how Yuasa choses to depict characters and his excellent use of color.

Progress:

This week I combined my animations and placed them with music. I also interviewed my mom and created subtitles which I then placed to old home videos.

MORE CERAMICS:

I have been continuing my pots and may photograph them in some sort of animation-esque way to incorporate into my thesis. I feel like blending them within the video could be successful.

THE MET:

The Met was lots of fun, tons of inspirational work - definitely inspired.

THIS WEEK:

More animations!!!! More sequences.... animate maybe someone in the subway and how the cars connect when you're in the tunnels and you can see the train across from you. I was on the subway and this happened and it occurred to me to animate this.

I have about 10 minutes of interview with my mother and sister when they were here that I have all transcribed so perhaps create more subtitles to pair with the sound.

EDIT SOUND!!! it sounds a little chaotic now which is ok... but what do I want to achieve with the sound, there must be a method to the chaos.

October 7 Update

 October 7 Update

What did I do this week?

I continued my ceramic creations as outlets for ideas, the terms 'enfants cosmic' is something I am playing with for a vase I'm creating and may use that as inspiration for my animations. I have been drawing lots. I have hit a rut in my animation process with the newsprint and marker so I decided to continue my reels I've been making. As well as try Anna Firths crosshair tutorial - https://www.annafirth.com/calartshair

Current Media:

I'm still reading Naked Lunch, thinking lots about vignettes and how they can be used. This will come useful for when I want to edit sound which I should really start thinking about since it'll be a big part of my work.

Amanda sent me this animation https://vimeo.com/67457641 The Pirate of Love. I really love how they mix live video with animation! I just might use this in my thesis... so many ideas...

I have also been intrigued by the idea of hotels, I don't think I'll use this for my thesis but I'm fascinated by how they are holding places for all types of people of all ages in foreign places. I may begin The Hotel by Sophie Calle as suggested to me by a friend.

THE MAKEUP - I have become obsessed with this band

Woodcut I made for my relief class that may be relevant:

For next week?

I'd like to begin a long sequence that I can continue for a couple weeks, everything I have done so far has been relatively short with endings that makes it so that I can composite them together in any order. This is nice but it feels it has no purpose, I will plan an animation with more of a story that I will aim to make around 30sec, I will still combine it with my others but perhaps this one could be almost a 'bridge' in the thesis.
